Left our caravan at our bushcamp outside Bungle Bungles
and drove the 53 kms of dirt road while our neighbors kept an eye on our van
for us. After obtaining our daypass from the visitor centre we drove on another
24 kms to Cathedral Gorge at the South end of the park where we walked 1.5 kms
into the gorge in what we were told later in the day was 44 degrees!!!!! The
gorge was beautiful & the acoustics in this natural amphitheatere were incredible.
The girls took advantage of this "stage" & tested it out, after
recovering from their hot walk, as we were the only ones there at the time.
After hiking out again we made a bee line for the air conditioned car and cold
water which was in the engel. At the car
park we talked with 2 hikers from the Netherlands who had just completed the
2.5 day hike into Piccanilly Creek!!!!! An amazing effort in this heat. We then
drove 42 kms to the Northern end of the park to hike into Echidna Chasm. This
hike luckily was mostly shaded which was why we chose to do it later in the
day, and was quite amazing. Surrounding cliff faces stretched up approx 200
metres either side of the palm lined
rocky path to a narrow gap approx 70 cm. Beautiful.... Once back at the
car we drove to the visitor centre again & refueled the girls with
Powerade as they were all unusually
quiet, and we were worried about their
hydration levels!!!!!!We drove out of the park and picked up our van after
saying thanks to our neighbours. Arrived in Kunanurra at 6.30 pm.
Feeling hot, bothered and tired we decided a swim in the
pool was a good idea to freshen up after our long hot day. Ava & Olivia
were too tired to eat after this stage so they nibbled on some fruit whilst
lying in bed!! Lucy managed a bit of dinner then asked if she could go to bed!!
Whilst this was a short stay at this park, it had beautiful vistas out onto
Lake Argyle Pondage where freshwater crocs frequent.

First sight of the Bungles after the visitors centre
The Cathedral, this is an amazing place, and to give you a perspective to the size you can see people in the bottom right hand corner.
A picture above the one below showing the height of the walls
We estimate the day was about 42deg with no water
Walking into Echidna Chasm
Echidna Chasm
The path from the chasm was along a creek bed which was hard to walk along when you were tired.
Loading up ready for our drive back to the van!!
