Said our goodbyes to Margie
& Keith as they were staying another night then heading south. We left
around 9 am and about 15 mins out of karumba thought our trip had come to an
end when the motor died on the Prado. No or limited phone coverage so when first
car stopped gave them car details & asked them to call RACQ for us. We also
texted a few people just to ensure message got through. We finally got enough
signal after Jason walked around for 10 mins! RACQ said 2 hours wait so we
pulled out awning & a couple of chairs & continued our school session
for the day! After 1 hour the truck came & it seems it was our lucky day
when a minor issue was resolved reasonably easily! Refueled in Normantown
luckily as first two servos had no fuel at all. Restocked our drinks at "
The Purple Pub" and continued on to Burke And Wills roadhouse (who had no
fuel either). Late afternoon stop at Gregory Down which was a general
store/pub/servo/ public toilet in one!!! By this stage it was 5.30pm & as
we drove past the Gregory Downs Bridge we noticed about 20 vans In the free
camp area & we contemplated stopping here, as advised especially as the high numbers of stock &
Roos on the roads, and the road into Adele's Grove was unsealed. We decided to
go on & arrived at 6.30 pm to an oasis. A
beautiful river edge camping ground set amongst lucious palms. The color
of the Lawn Hill Creek was the most amazing emerald green the photos do not do
it justice!
A couple shots of the Karumba Point Sunset Park
Our goodbyes to Margie and Kieth.
Karumba Beach and boat ramp.
Not something we need to remember!!
The width if the road was one lane wide alot of the way to Burke and Wills Roadhouse where we turned off, thankfully we did not a road train along any of these sections.
The ant hills along the way.
